14 Aug Give Me That Old-Time Revelation by the Holy Ghost
Today’s Scripture Reading: John 14:16–17, 15:26, 16:13; Key Verse: John 16:13
When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into
all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever
He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
Why is it so important to be tested? The pressure of a test plants the seed of the kingdom gospel deep down inside of you. This is what the old saints had.
They did not have a radio program and they were not on TV. They did not even have a concordance or a commentary for the most part. All they had was the King James Version of the Bible and the Holy Ghost as their Teacher.
The King James Version features the English language as it existed in 1611 (five years before William Shakespeare died), complete with its “thou’s” and “thee’s” and “wist nots.” Many modern saints avoid this translation as they would a minefield, but the old saints made it through all the “thou’s” and “thee’s” and “wist nots” just fine with the help of the Holy Ghost. Many of these saints had very little education and some of them had none, but they persevered and received God’s seeds because the Holy Ghost was their Explainer and Expositor. They were hungry and willing to pay a price, so He brought them revelation knowledge.
I know we have all kinds of commentaries, teaching tapes, and videos available to us today—and I am thankful for them—but sometimes these tools become the toys of fools because we forget that they can never replace the work of the Holy Ghost.
Let me encourage you to close your Bible reference books, shut down your computer-based Bible search programs, turn off your audio- and videotape machines once in a while, and open up the Bible. Ask the Holy Spirit, “Teacher, teach me what the kingdom is about so I can get it in my heart.” You will discover a whole new world awaiting you under the incomparable instruction of the Holy Spirit.
Holy Spirit of God, I ask You to teach me what I need to know about the kingdom. I look only to the Word of God and the heart of the Father as You show me these things.
In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
